Electroacoustic Music from Six Decades

The music world can roughly be divided into two big groups: one for whom music cannot be old enough; for the other not new enough. It was that way in the 20th century and it’s no different today. That’s a pity – especially for a genre whose genesis is not bound to a time flow: fixed media music (or “tape” as we said earlier). From the moment of its realization, it can be reproduced and performed at any time, like a movie, as long as the necessary technology exists.
This program brings together six decades of music creation. The selection results from the collaboration with the Experimental Studio Bratislava, which was created spontaneously last summer (2018).
A loudspeaker orchestra featuring 20 loudspeakers of different characteristics is available for rehearsals for three days, in which a spatial staging of the pieces can be developed.

Thematik
Die Musikwelt kann man grob in zwei große Gruppen einteilen: Der einen kann Musik nicht alt genug sein; der anderen nicht neu genug. Es war im 20. Jahrhundert so und es ist heute nicht anders. Das ist schade – insbesondere für eine Musikgattung, deren Entstehung nicht an einen zeitlichen Ablauf gebunden ist: Fixed Media Music (oder ‘Tonbandstücke’, wie man früher sagte). Vom Zeitpunkt ihrer Realisation an können die Werke, wie ein Film, jederzeit reproduziert und aufgeführt werden, solange die dazu nötige Technologie existiert.
In diesem Programm sind sechs Jahrzehnte Musikschaffen zusammengefasst. Es ergibt sich aus der Kooperation mit dem Experimental Studio Bratislava, die vorigen Sommer spontan entstanden ist.
Eine Auswahl an Lautsprechern aus der Sammlung von Günther Rabl, mit zum Teil historischen und legendären Modellen, steht auch diesmal wieder zur Verfügung. Die Halle selber wird zum Klangkörper, in dessen Inneren sich die Zuhörer/innen befinden.
“Kino für die Ohren”, wie es Juraj Ďuriš (langjähriger Leiter des Experimentalstudios im slowakischen Rundfunk) nennt.
